Nevada’s Sex Offender Registry offers a well-organized site with information on Tier II (moderate risk of re-offense) and Tier III (high risk of re-offense) registered sex offenders. A separate online service is used for the mapping function: better than Mapquest, but not as good as a dedicated, interactive map. Like New Jersey, Nevada offers a vehicle search.
Each profile includes one or more color photographs, a standard physical description without identifying marks and residence address. Block addresses are listed for place of employment where available. Conviction information is limited to conviction date, court, location, statute and offense name.
Nevada has a single search form divided into three sections: person, address and vehicle. It is recommended you include the city, but you must enter additional fields. This is the only state to allow a search by Social Security number. Also, there is an unusual drop down menu for street type, including islands, knolls and keys—an example of irrelevant detail.
Safety tips for children provide valuable advice and links to other resources are prominent. Legal information, neighborhood mapping through Watchdog.com, email alerts and a FAQs page are available.
The search parameters are limited which can be confusing. A list of 10 possible combinations of search fields is offered; there are more efficient ways to organize a search function. Because Nevada outsources its mapping function, profiles are not integrated with the maps, you’ll have to retype the sex offender’s information. However, this solution is better than no map or the Mapquest link seen on some other states’ sites.

Nevada’s Sex Offender Registry accomplishes the objective of providing information on potentially dangerous sex offenders. An integrated map, better search function and more crime details would make this good site better.
