The Nebraska Sex Offender Registry site contains information on high risk/Level 3 sex offenders. This is one of the few states to disclose its risk assessment instrument. Nebraska has taken the first steps to provide a mapping function, but a link to Google maps for mapping an offender’s address offers much less than the dedicated interactive maps found on higher ranked sites.
Profiles include the standard physical, residence address and a city the offender is known to frequent—a detail unique to Nebraska. Crime information is limited to offense name, jurisdiction, court and conviction date.
You can search the registry by last name, first name, city, county and zip code. Nebraska offers an interesting twist: you may sort your results by name, city, county or zip code. The search function also has the option to display pictures or not.
Nebraska has one of the most thorough FAQs pages and links to associated sites like the Jacob Wetterling Foundation and Parents for Megan’s Law. Nebraska also offers a Documents section, which includes not only legal information but the risk assessment instrument as well.
Search results include names, addresses and small color photos of offenders, so if you are searching for someone specific, the photos will help speed your search.
Contact the Nebraska State Patrol by email or phone.
Nebraska designed a useful site with excellent educational resources for the community. The link to Google maps is insufficient and should be replaced with a dedicated, interactive site map—a better match between the site and the public’s desire for neighborhood safety.
