The site allows a search for only those offenders who have committed a crime against a minor. In more refined searches a zip code is required which is unnecessary and could cause needless frustration. Hawaii fails to provide helpful links, a mapping function or notification information.
The Hawaii sex offender registry site shares the offender’s name, prior names, aliases, photograph, residence address, personal vehicles(s) driven, street name of employment, college/university affiliation and crime for which convicted as set forth by federal law. Risk level assessment and offense details would make this site more useful.
You can search by name, street name or zip code. The search function will accommodate single letters or more if you’re not sure of a name. If you search by name or street name, you must enter corresponding zip code, which seems unnecessary and should be corrected. You may limit your search to sex offenders convicted of a crime against a minor.
Hawaii offers a listing on non-compliant sex offenders as required by federal law. This is more useful to law enforcement than residents. Like many of the sex offender sites rated lower in this review, Hawaii does not include additional information for the community regarding protection from and prevention of sex crimes.
The Hawaii Sex Offender Registry is easy to find from the Hawaii homepage or by search engine. This site is also easy to use. A drop down zip code menu speeds searching.
